Inland opened a call for a new edition of Inland Academy, our independent postgraduate program on art, territories, and social change. Interested participants were invited to apply to the 2024–25 course that runs from late September to June, filling a simplified form available at inland.org/academy, until the 5th of August. Inland Academy operates in a hybrid format, with online meetings in the form of lectures, presentations, radio-scores broadcasts, conversations and mentoring opportunities, and also during seasonal in-person week-long sessions in the diverse contexts in which Inland engages and applies its practice, hands at work, in the land. Locations include the Inland spaces in the Northern Mountains of Spain, Madrid, and Mallorca. This year, Inland Academy will cultivate a connection with rural areas of northern and eastern France as well, in collaboration with @the_na_project. The program combines theory and practice alongside an array of contributions from experts in agro-ecology, socio-cultural context analysis, local dynamization, and contemporary art, offering tools, theoretical bases, and expertise for those willing to define as well as develop projects that examine and reinvent power dynamics around rurality and the established art system. At the end of the program, we will work towards an exhibition, showcasing the participants’ research and their constellation of projects with the public, potentially taking the form of a dinner, a publication, a film screening or a visual arts show.

For the 2024 course, Inland Academy incorporates inputs and collaboration with land-based projects by Inland Academy Year 1 participants, some supported by our Office for Direct Cultivation, such as @foghiles (Sardinia, Italy), @akee_spaceforculture (Lithuania), @harvestsch00l School (India), and BastaLand (Palestine). We will also be in exchange with the networks we are part of such as the Lumbung Land Group, the European Shepherds Network, Analogue Forestry International, the @confederacyofvillages, and @transformative_territories. The program hosts spaces for twelve applicants, which were selected by the Inland Academy team and notified on August 10th. The participation cost of the program for the year is €500 and there are diverse travel grants.
